Falkirk bridge closed to pedestrians after inspection

A bridge over New Hallglen Road in Falkirk has been closed to pedestrians as a safety precaution.

The move follows a routine inspection of the approach ramp and spiral staircase.

Engineers have also examined the footbridge deck along with the ramp and staircase on the north side and are confident that these are in a safe and stable condition, so it has not been necessary to close New Hallglen Road to road traffic.

Appropriate fencing and signs have been erected and arrangements reviewed for children to safely access Hallglen Primary School on their return from the Easter holiday.

A Falkirk Council spokesman said: ‘‘Further investigation work will be undertaken at the footbridge as a priority to identify the most appropriate course of action.

‘‘However, in the meantime, the footbridge needs to remain closed to pedestrians.’’
