The annual even runs until March 16 and was launched with some water rocket displays on a wet and wild Sunday at the Helix.
During the festival local libraries will be hosting Alien Light Workshops for youngsters and talks for adults.
In a first for the science festival, the Orchard Hotel will be hosting a science-based pub quiz, with cash prizes for local Einsteins.
Kinnaird Primary School enjoyed the James Soper Science Show on Tuesday, discovering the physics behind the fun of circus skills like juggling and unicycling.
