MP Eric Joyce has resigned from the Labour Party.
The controversial member for Falkirk told the House of Commons this afternoon that he had left the party.
It had been widely expected that he would be expelled from Labour following a disciplinary hearing following Friday’s court appearance.
Mr Joyce (51) plead guilty to four charges of common assault following a fracas in the Strangers Bar in the Palace of Westminster last month which saw him punch and headbutt fellow MPs.
He was given a 12 month community order and £3000 fine, as well as being banned from pubs for three months following his drunken outburst.
