Wedding bells are ringing for a lucky couple who captured reader’s hearts to win the day of their dreams.
Julie Wright and Steven Reid will marry next year at the BEST WESTERN PLUS Keavil House Hotel. They got the most public votes in a competition for the £5000 big day run by The Falkirk Herald in conjunction with the luxurious Crossford venue.
Readers were moved by Julie’s story. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2003 and, despite battling back to health, devastated to be told a few years later it had returned.
As well as looking after daughter Karys (9), Julie has juggled her medical appointments with raising over £10,000 for the Beatson in Glasgow and Strathcarron Hospice, which have both provided her with care.
She met careers adviser Steven (27), from Bo’ness, at a Bible study group at the Albert Gospel Hall in Grangemouth, three years ago.
On June 6 he proposed to her as they went for a walk round the Helix Park.
Julie said: “I had planned to cut the grass but Steven was quite insistent that we go for a walk. We stopped for a seat in a quiet spot and that’s when he proposed – he even had the ring.
“We looked at Keavil House as a wedding venue and it is absolutely beautiful. I can’t believe we have won and actually going to hold our special day there.”
After meeting the wedding co-ordinators at Keavil House last week the couple will hold their wedding there on June 13.
Also looking forward to the special occasion are their parents, Elizabeth and Graham Wright of Camelon, and Anne and Paul Reid of Bo’ness.
Alistair Bruce, general manager of BEST WESTERN PLUS Keavil House Hotel, said: “I’m delighted for Julie and Steven. Keavil House offers the most glamorous, perfect setting for a wedding and, given the personal circumstances, no couple deserves this more. We will work with them to create a unique wedding day that they, their family and friends will remember for ever and the photographs taken in the secluded privacy of this country house hotel will be something to treasure. I’d like to extend my congratulations to them and to say to them, ‘look forward to the treat in store as planning a wedding with us is stress free and fun’.”
The two other couples who made the final were Emma Lindsay and Ross Miller of Falkirk, and Allana Hart and Ross Buchanan of Tamfourhill.
