Two Larbert childhood sweethearts recently celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary.
Eighty-four-year-old Joe and Janet Sharp (80), of Union Place, were the guests of honour at a party help at Larbert Old Church, where Joe is a Church Elder, and more than 80 family and friends were invited to enjoy the fantastic evening on Sunday, March 29.
There were married at Plean Parish Church by the Rev. Dougal B Mathieson. Former office worker Janet, who specialized as a shorthand typist, and Joe, a retired engineer who later changed career to become a nurse at Bellsdyke Hospital, have had a hectic time celebrating their milestone.
They received a special telegram from HM The Queen and toasted 60 happy years of marriage together with daughters Jennifer, Julie and Alison at the party.
They then hopped on a plane and flew to Orkney the following week to see their son Alan and his family for more celebrations!
Janet, nee White, said: “We have had such a great time and would like to thank everyone for everything they have done to mark our anniversary.
“The party was fantastic – then a few days later we were on a plane to Orkney to make a special lunch with our son and his family.
“It has all been wonderful – very special indeed.”
So what’s their secret behind 60 years of marriage?
“Keeping active and having hobbies,” said Janet. We are lucky we have so many good friends who have been there for us throughout the years.”
Joe added: “We like travelling too and are planning more trips soon.
“We like to stay busy and keep smiling.”
