The start of building work to re-create Denny town centre is to be delay in the hope of securing a £1.4 million grant.

Following demolition work, Falkirk Council chiefs had originally expected to begin the building stage at the start of next year.

However, Executive councillors agreed this morning to postpone the proposed start date in a bid to win a hefty sum through a national regeneration capital grant fund.

If the council is successful in its bid for the cash, work will not start on site until April 2015.

However, officials said they remained confident that the original completion date could still be met.

Council leader Craig Martin said: “I think this is a good news story for Denny.

“If we didn’t wait for the outcome of this grant, people would ask us why.”
