It was the comeback event that proved community spirit is alive and well in Denny and Dunipace in the 21st century.

Now organisers have confirmed that the burgh’s gala day will return for a second year following the runaway success of last year’s celebration.

The big day will be Saturday, May 23, and the venue will once again be Herbertshire Castle Park, commonly known as the Gala Park.

The gala was a popular annual event in the area but a lack of organisers led to it last being held in 2000. Denny community council joined forces with the local heritage society last year to bring it back.

Organisers were thrilled when an estimated 7000 people took to the streets to view a parade led by Denny Gleneagles Pipe Band through the town on to the Gala Park.

A gala queen was chosen at random from primary seven girls at local schools and the same process will be repeated again this year.

Community councillor Sharon Tait is helping organise the event. She said: “We are looking for entertainers, dancing troupes and live music acts to perform on the day.”

“We are also sending letters out to local businesses to get on board and are looking for anyone that can help with floats, donations, funding or just getting involved.

“The gala will be as good as people make it, so we’re hoping that many people sign up to help and we can make this year’ event even better than last year.”
