Denny Old

The Timeout Group meets tomorrow (Friday) at 8 p.m. in the Wheelhouse. Anyone needing a lift should call Irene on (01324) 892226. The Crafty Cafe meets this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon in the hall. Come along and learn some new skills or just drop in for a chat while enjoying a coffee and home baking. Cost is £2 per person. Worship on Sunday is at 11 a.m. and will be led by Sandra Mathers. The Sunday Club meets at the same time and crèche facilities are available. This is the Harvest Thanksgiving service, and you are invited to bring along some donations for Falkirk Foodbank. The church will be getting decorated for harvest on Saturday from 1.30 p.m. and if you could spare some time to come along and help it will be much appreciated. The Lunch-Box is open on Monday from 11 a.m.-1.30 p.m., serving soup, sandwiches, tea/coffee and home baking. All welcome. The Girls’ Brigade meets on Monday at 6.30 p.m. in the hall, and is open to all girls of school age.

Westpark Church

Worship on Sunday is at 10.30 a.m. and will be led by the Reverend Phyllis Wilson. Kidzone take part at the start of the service then move to the halls to enjoy their own activities. Creche facilities are also available. The Wednesday Welcome is open from 10 a.m. for fellowship over tea or coffee followed by a short service from 11.15 to 11.45 a.m. The Open Door is open from 10.30 a.m- to 1 p.m. today (Thursday) for tea, coffee and lunch. There is a choice of two soups, main course, sandwiches, sweet or fruit loaf at reasonable prices. All welcome. Please note that the collating and checking of the Blythswood shoeboxes will take place on November 21.

Citizens Advice

The bureau is located above Clydesdale Bank at 24 Duke Street and is open today (Thursday), Friday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A legal clinic is held every four weeks on Wednesdays by appointment only (4 to 5 p.m.). Outreach clinics are held at the Community Education Wing at Bankier Primary School today (Thursday) from 10 a.m. to noon, at Bridge Crescent Community Flat on Tuesday from 9.30 a.m. to noon and Denny Parish Church Hall on Wednesday from 9.30 to 11.30 a.m. Telephone service (Citizens Advice Direct) available Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on (01324) 823118. Please note the Bureau will be closed on Monday, September 29 for staff training.

Probus Club

President Alan Hay welcomed the members and guest speaker Marion Thomson. After dealing with club business the president invited Marion to address the members on the subject of ‘Fire Safety in the Home’. Marion delivered a most informative, interesting talk, perfectly suited to the senior audience. Fire remains one of the most significant dangers in and around the home. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service work with individuals, communities and businesses to ensure that they are equipped to prevent fires happening, protect themselves from risk of fire and minimise injury and damage should that occur. The vote of thanks was given by Hugh Johnston. The next meeting will be October 13 and will be an extraordinary meeting when some constitutional issues will be discussed.

Burns Club

Denny Cross Burns Club begins its new season tomorrow (Friday) at 7.30 p.m. in the Masonic Hall, Kirkslap. President Stuart Assur welcomes members old and new. Various guest speakers have been lined up for the new season along with the St Andrews night celebration in November and the annual celebration in January 2015.
