Community Council

The next meeting of Denny and District Community Council takes place on Monday at 6.30 p.m. in the Baptist Church. Items on the agenda include town centre regeneration, the Mydub development, Denny Eastern Access Road, a PACT update from Police Scotland and Denny Gala Day. The meeting will be also be attended by Inspector Kellet of Police Scotland and Claire Harvey, community development officer for Central Scotland Regional Equality Council. Please come along and bring your issues, concerns and suggestions for improving the local community.

Credit Union

Savings are safe with Falkirk District Credit Union and low cost loans are available once regular savings established. Anyone who lives or works in the area within the boundary of Falkirk Council can join, junior savers welcome. Buggy Group

The Denny and DuniPacers buggy group leaves the Home-Start offices every Friday at the new time of 10.30 a.m. All welcome.

Denny Old

The worship this Sunday is at 11 a.m. and will be led by the Rev.John Murning. Creche facilities are available, and the Sunday Club meets at the same time. The Lunch Box is open on Monday from 11 a.m.-1.30 p.m., serving soup, sandwiches, tea/coffee and home baking. All welcome. The Church Walking Group meets on Tuesday evening and leaves the church at 7p.m. You are welcome to come along and enjoy a gentle walk for about an hour. The Garden Fete takes place this year on Saturday, May 17, and Elders are now visiting districts distributing letters and uplifting donations. If you are giving a monetary donation and are a taxpayer, you can complete a gift aid form and the church can then claim the tax back on your gift. Anyone interested in attending this year’s Heart and Soul event in Princess Street Gardens in Edinburgh on Sunday, May 18 should put their names on the list at the kitchen. Stuart Assur is organising an outing to Melrose from September 5-8. If you would like more details please speak to Stuart as soon as possible.

W.A.S.P. Project

The Wider Access to Schools Project will hold its AGM on Wednesday, June 11 at Denny High School, where the guest speaker will be Councillor Jim Blackwood. A new baby massage class has also started. Please contact the office on (01324) 822895 for details and enrolment.

Citizens Advice

The bureau is located above Clydesdale Bank at 24 Duke Street, Denny and is open today (Thursday), Friday, Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. A legal clinic is held every four weeks on Wednesdays by appointment only (4-5 p.m.). Outreach clinics are held at the Community Education Wing at Bankier Primary School today (Thursday) from 10 a.m.-noon, at Bridge Crescent Community Flat on Tuesday from 9.30 a.m.-noon and Denny Parish Church Hall on Wednesday from 9.30 a.m.-11.30 a.m. Sessions to complete online benefit applications are held at the Community Education Wing at Bankier Primary School on Thursday from 10–12 noon and the Bridge Crescent Community Flat on Tuesday from 1-3 p.m. Telephone service (Citizens Advice Direct) available Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on (01324) 823118.

Masonic news

An emergency meeting of Lodge St. Andrew (Denny & Loanhead) No. 176 will be held next Friday, May 16, at 7.30 p.m. when Lodge Carron No. 139 will visit to advance two candidates to the Mark Degree. A harmony will follow. Unfortunately due to this event, the bar will be closed to anyone not attending the meeting. Last Saturday, Pat Cairns brought his excellent cabaret show to the Lodge and provided superb entertainment as her performed as Neil Diamond and Kenny Rodgers before a third spot as himself. The next cabaret will be a tribute to Lionel Ritchie and bookings are being taken by Lesley at the bar and by Helen on social media. Members of the Lodge will be taking part in the annual Provincial Grand Lodge golf competition at Shawpark on Sunday and are seeking sponsors.

Westpark Church

Worship on Sunday begins at 10.30 a.m. will be led by Rev. Phyllis Wilson. Kidzone take part at the start of the service then move to the halls to enjoy their own activities. Creche facilities are also available. The Wednesday Welcome is open from 10 a.m. for fellowship over tea or coffee followed by a short service from 11.15 - 11.45 a.m. Please note that the Open Door is open on a Thursday from 10.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on for tea, coffee and lunch. There is a choice of two soups, main course, sandwiches, sweet or fruit loaf at reasonable prices. All welcome.

Dunipace Scouts

Dunipace Scout Group is holding a piano smash, car boot sale (tables £5) and a visit from a fire engine on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Scout Hall in Laurel Court. Call (01324) 823290 to book your car/table space.

Line dancing

Next class takes place tomorrow (Friday) in Broompark Centre, Denny, from 1-2 p.m. Beginners and improvers welcome.
