Denny Cross Burns Club is pleased to announce the winners of the annual essay competion run in conjunction with Denny High School. First prize was awarded to Gregor Forsyth, second to Rhiannon Mitchell, and third to Andrew Ogilvie. Vice-president Martin McMenemy thanked all the students who took part in the competition stating that the judging panel had a very difficult task in deciding the winner, such was the high standard of the essays. The awards will be presented at the school’s annual prizegiving ceremony.
Worship on Sunday is at 11 a.m. Creche facilities will be available. The church walking group meets on Tuesday and leaves the church at 7 p.m., come along and enjoy a gentle walk for an hour. All items for the June newsletter should be with Elinor Clunie by this Sunday at the latest. The session members meeting scheduled for June 23 has been cancelled.
Worship on Sunday begins at 10.30 a.m. and includes the prizegiving. The service will be led by the Rev. Phyllis Wilson. Kidzone take part at the start of the service then move to the halls to enjoy their own activities. Creche facilities are also available. The Wednesday Welcome is open from 10 a.m. for fellowship over tea or coffee followed by a short service from 11.15-11.45 a.m. Please note that the Open Door is today (Thursday) from 10.30 a.m.-1 p.m. for tea, coffee and lunch. There is a choice of two soups, main course, sandwiches, sweet or fruit loaf at reasonable prices. All welcome. The last Open Door of the summer takes place next Thursday, June 26, before re-opening on September 4.
A kids’ fun sports evening will be held tomorrow (Friday) in Denny Sports Centre from 6.45-8.45 p.m. for those in P1-7. This will be an evening of games to celebrate the forthcoming Commonwealth Games. The services on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. will be led by the Rev. Norman Graham. Visitors are always welcome. Children and young people meet during the morning service and a crèche is available during all services.

A cabaret tribute to Lionel Ritchie and the music of Motown will be staged on Saturday, June 28 at the Masonic Hall, Denny. All are welcome to attend. Tickets can be booked through Lesley at the bar on Monday, Friday or Saturday evenings or via Helen on social media.

The Drop-In was a bit quieter last week. This week there will be some new toys for the kids to play with while parents enjoy a cuppa and a chat. There are daily papers and a good selection of popular books available so visitors can read them, bring them, swap them. Also available to enjoy is a Gamecube for gamers, pool table, watch a film or just relax with friends. There are also clothes to give away along with some household items.
