A high school teacher from Denny appeared in court yesterday accused of kissing one of her teenage male pupils and lying beside him partially clothed.

Bernadette Smith (35) was arrested last week after allegations of an affair with a 17-year-old boy.

She appeared at Stirling Sheriff Court charged with contravening Section 42 of the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009 by kissing the boy and lying on a bed with him in a state of undress.

The alleged offences are said to have taken place between September 13 and September 20 at an address in Cowie and in Callendar Park, Falkirk.

Harry Coughlan, defending, said his client was pleading not guilty.

Depute fiscal Alison Montgomery did not oppose bail.

Smith lives in Gill Park, Denny, with her husband and three children.

A trial date was set for January.
