A 74-year-old man’s body was recovered from a canal in Bainsford this morning after police were alerted by a member of the public.

The grim discovery was made shortly after 10 a.m. close to Lock 6, around 200 yards from the Gambero Rosso restaurant.

Emergency services remained at the scene for several hours.

The man’s next of kin have been informed.

A police spokesman said enquiries were at an early stage and that a report had been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
