Trainee teacher Mari-Jane Paterson is one of only a handful of people to earn the Queen’s Guide Award.
The 22-year-old Stirling University student and 6th Stirlingshire Brownie leader was presented with the accolade at a ceremony at the House of Lords last week.
The Queen’s Guide Award is a three-year leadership challenge for young women aged 16-25. Mari-Jane, from Falkirk, had to tackle various demanding tasks to earn the award and thinks she has become more confident as a result.
She said: “This was a big challenge for me as I am quite shy and nervous in front of groups. The self confidence I gained now allows me to stand in front of any group of people and speak. It has, without a doubt, made me a better leader.”
