The SSPCA is looking for the owner of Sharon, a one-eyed cat who was rescued in Maddiston

The owners of a one-eyed cat are being sought after it was found hiding under cars in Maddiston.

The Scottish SPCA were called out to Murray Crescent in the village on Thursday after local residents became concerned for the pet’s welfare.

The female cat is white and tortoiseshell in colour. It is being cared for by the animal welfare charity at its re-homing centre in Milton.

She has been named ‘Sharon’ and the SSPCA is appealing for her owner to be found.

Animal recsue officer Ashley Griffin said: “The residents had spotted Sharon hiding underneath cars for two to three days and a she didn’t appear to have moved they were very worried about her.

“One lady said when she opened her car door Sharon jumped straight in so it’s possible she had been kept as a house cat and was seeking warmth.

Sharon is certainly a distinctive cat as she only has one eye. Her left eye has been surgically removed at some point but this doesn’t appear to be causing her any issues.

“She is slightly underweight, which the vet had advised may be down to a thyroid problem, but other than this she is in good condition.

“At this stage we aren’t sure how Sharon came to be there. It may be that she has escaped from home, but sadly we also have to consider that she could have been abandoned.”

Anyone who recognises Sharon is asked to call the SSPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
