A Falkirk mum is delighted to be taking part in this year’s Race for Life fundraiser after a “horrendous year” battling cancer.

Marie Grant (41) was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago and has undergone radiotherapy, chemotherapy and a mastectomy.

But she has recently received the great news she is “cancer free” and, while still receiving treatment, is now focusing on her fitness by training for the Cancer Research event on Sunday, June 8.

She said: “My tumour was very small and the doctors said the mastectomy got all of it so I have been very lucky.

“My mum lost her life to breast cancer, and both my aunties have had cancer.

“Despite this, my diagnosis was still a huge shock.”

Married to Ian, Marie is mum to Sophie (6) and three-year-old Aiden and works as a business analyst.

But she’s also found time to work out with a personal trainer, Hazel Smith of Bannatyne’s, to help her on the day.

She said: “I’m taking part because I really want to raise money for Cancer Research and run in memory of my mum. It’s been a horrendous year and I’m just happy I can take part.”

To register for the event, visit the Cancer Research website.
