Proud Stephen Tonge was cheered by fellow pupils as he carried the Queen’s Baton into Denny High School.

He was the seventh batonbearer in the Falkirk area with fellow pupil Mark Winning and former Denny High pupil Danielle Fullard carrying the Commonwealth Games icon immediately before.

Hundreds of youngsters were joined by staff, parents and members of the community who turned out in force to greet the baton and Games mascot Clyde.

Stephen (17) said: “It was an amazing experience and I feel really privileged.”

The teenager was selected for his dedication to the sport of gymnastics.

The baton left Denny heading to Forth Valley Royal Hospital where patients and staff were able to join in the celebrations, before moving on to Larbert.

Later today it heads for The Falkirk Wheel, the Steeple, Callendar Park, Bo’ness, Blackness, Grangemouth and will finish at The Helix where a giant event will feature all the district’s batonbearers.
