A bereaved mum who didn’t know the ashes of her stillborn son had been buried is holding a public meeting for other parents who fear they were victims of a mix-up.

Angela Smith (34), from Langlees, organised the event after other parents contacted her.

Mrs Smith’s son Riece was stillborn in 2005, 18 weeks into her pregnancy. She and husband Tommy wanted him cremated, but she claims she was told policies in place at the time meant there would be no ashes.

However, the couple found out last year their son’s ashes were buried at Falkirk Crematorium.

“The same thing happened to two sisters the same year as me and there could be others,” said Mrs Smith.

Councillor Craig R Martin said: “We are sensitive to every bereaved parent who has experienced this loss and have looked at our procedures to ensure they meet the needs of the families. We would fully assist any family and would urge them to get in contact if they have concerns.”

The meeting is in the Orchard Hotel on Sunday from 2-4 p.m
