‘What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?’ (Matthew 18:12)
‘For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He (even) gave up His only-begotten Son, so that whosoever believes in (trusts, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish - come to destruction, be lost - but have everlasting (eternal) life’ (John 3:16).
Less known than his Aunt Corrie, Peter was part of the Ten Boom family that provided a safe house in Haarlem the Netherlands, for Jewish people during the Nazi occupation.
He helped extricate hundreds of Jewish children from orphanages before the German’s could ship them to concentration camps.
Peter also played the organ in church, though it was forbidden by the Nazis.
Peter pulled out the stops one Sunday and played the Dutch national anthem. Shocked, but proud church-goers stood and sang the words.
For this act of deviance, Peter, who was then 16 years old, went to prison.
After the war, Peter went around the world with the same message as his famous aunt; forgiveness is the only answer to hatred.
While on tour in Israel, he was felled by a heart attack. Surgery was necessary to save his life.
Before that, the cardiologist asked Peter: “Are you by any chance related to the Ten Booms of Haarlem?” “That’s my family,” Peter said. “I’m one of the babies your family saved!”
This story has been taken from a bible study book I read a long time ago that speaks about the power of forgiveness and love.
People need to know the love of the Lord Jesus and receive his forgiveness, so that they in turn might forgive others.
My prayer is that we might receive His Love!
