An urgent safety warning has been issued after police received calls that children as young as eight have been seen on a motorway slip road.

The sightings at junction 5 of the M9 at Cadgers Brae in Grangemouth come just a month after 13-year-old Michael Easton was tragically killed while attempting to cross the motorway.

Elaine Marshall, Police Scotland’s road safety officer for Forth Valley, said: “We have had several reports of children playing on the motorway in the Falkirk area, but when officers attended they youngsters were nowhere to be seen.

“Not only are these children putting their own lives at risk, they are also putting the lives of motorists in danger.”
