Workers spotted a cat struggling to get out of a container at a factory site.

The feline was spotted at Unico Manufacturing in North Main Street, Carronshore yesterday.

The Scottish SPCA were alerted and the black and white cat, nicknamed Iona by staff, is now being cared for at its Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Hamilton.

Animal rescue officer Ashley Griffin said: “We think Iona must have climbed into the container and become stuck.

“She was desperately struggling to get out when she was spotted hanging over the top of it by her neck. Thankfully she was discovered in time.

“It’s likely Iona had been in there for a while as she is underweight.”

Described as one of the friendliest cats the animal charity has come across, Iona was wearing a blue flea collar.

If her owner cannot be found, then the Scottish SPCA will rehome her.

Anyone who recognises Iona is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA on 03000 999 999.
