A couple are heading for darkest Peru to raise money for Strathcarron Hospice.
Local lawyer Simon Hutchison and partner Linzi will take on a 10-day trek in Machu Picchu – a trip which will take them to 4800 metres above sea level.
The Inca Trail will see the couple travel through a diverse range of scenery and countryside, as well as to the Baños Del Inca, probably the best hot springs in southern Peru which are situated at an altitude of 2667 metres.
Simon said: “We try to do something every year for charity.
“Last year, we did an abseil from the Forth Bridge for Action for Children and we held an It’s a Knockout competition for Strathcarron too. Linzi has also done a skydive in the past.
“She’s always wanted to go to Peru so we decided to combine the two things.”
As well as preparing for the walk itself, Simon and Linzi have also been hard at work fundraising for the trip.
The couple, who live in Carron, have to collect £7000 before they can head off on their travels.
They have already organised a Lawyer’s Night which raised £640.
Linzi, a social work assistant in a children and families team at Falkirk Council, said: “The charity was chosen specifically to benefit local people and is close to our hearts as they provide such an amazing support in our local area.
“We are concentrating on approaching local businesses for donations of gifts and money.
“We have already received a number of personal donations and several local businesses have pledged raffle prizes.
“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone who has kindly donated so far.
“Over the next few months we will be having more fundraising events so please look out for these and come along, join in with the fun and help raise funds.”
Some of those who have donated already include Skidz, Behind the Wall, Antonios, Salon Ian, Falkirk Football Club, and Darcys Nail and Beauty.
The couple’s next fundraising event is on Friday, June 17, upstairs in Behind the Wall.
The Rock Gods will be performing on the night, and there will also be raffles and prize games
Tickets, priced £5, are available in advance from Simon on 07785 332002 or Linzi on 07927 510833.
