Award winning wholesale butcher Malcolm Allan is gearing up for a sizzling summer.
The burgers now available from supermarket giants Asda have passed the Scottish Slimmers taste test and the perfect healthy option for anyone looking to tuck into a bun filled with beef that is lower in fat and salt and also gluten free.
Malcolm Allan has been developing healthier alternatives in response to the Scottish Government-backed campaign to encourage families to cut their consumption of saturated fats and salt.
As consumer demands have changed, the business has taken up the challenge to deliver tasty - and healthy - options.
The steak burgers, made from 100 per cent Scottish Farm Assured beef, is part of a range that includes its famous low fat Lorne sausages.
Director Gordon Allan said: “We have a responsibility to offer alternative, healthier products, and made a real effort as a firm to try and be innovative. We started with a healthier burger three years ago and it’s now our best selling burger line.
“We already make 62 per cent of all the Lorne sausage sold in Scotland and spent time developing this product so it is a healthier option but still eats and tastes like a traditional Lorne.”
Brian O’Shea, Asda’s regional buying manager for Scotland, said: “We are very proud to support the product innovation and extended ranges offered by Malcolm Allan.
“With the barbecue season hotting up it’s a great opportunity for us to meet the gap in the market for healthier Scottish ranges and ready meals and it’s clear from the sales they are proving popular with our customers.”
