A father and son have secured the future of their Falkirk joinery business by investing over £250,000 in a new manufacturing base.
David and Martin Finlay have erected the purpose-built unit in Bankside Industrial Estate for MD Finlay Joinery Ltd after outgrowing their old premises 600 years away.
The move saw two new machines installed, which have been part funded with a Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) grant secured with the help of Business Gateway Falkirk, into their new home giving them the additional machinery and capacity needed to take on larger contracts.
Now, having just fulfilled an order to produce internal doors for Sundial Properties, a leading property developer and builder in Edinburgh, the firm, which moved into 14a Castle Road in January, has secured a contract to produce window and door frames for Total Reinstatement Services.
The firm is also hoping to create two jobs by August to take its workforce to 12.
David said: “Owning the 7000sq. ft unit, which is twice the size of our previous rented accommodation, and installing the new machinery has allowed us to comfortably work on major contracts whilst also working on individual, bespoke timber staircases, doors, and windows.”
“When we originally decided to move a friend recommended we speak with Business Gateway and our adviser has been fantastic – she has an answer for everything! Without her we wouldn’t have known about the RSA funding.”
