Burger boss Kevin Reid has been served up an opportunity to enhance his qualifications and progress his career.
The business manager at McDonald’s restaurant in Grangemouth, Kevin (34) is the first in the town to receive one of the takeaway giant’s foundation degrees in managing business operations.
A qualification only open to elite McDonald’s business managers, prospective entrants have to undergo an extensive selection process to earn a place on the programme.
The burger company worked closely with Manchester Metropolitan University to gain accreditation and create a foundation degree, offering a mixture of academic study and on-the-job learning.
Kevin, of Falkirk, said: “I started working part-time at McDonald’s 16 years ago as a way to save for university, but I soon saw the opportunity to progress my career within the business and decided to join permanently.
“I heard lots of great things about the foundation degree from other senior managers, so when the chance came along, I jumped at it.
“The skills I have learnt are limitless. It has opened my eyes to the business as a whole, in terms of the wider industry, as well as the restaurant I work in.”
Local franchisee Elliot Jardine said: “As the worlds of business and education continue to move closer, people no longer want to choose between the two and I believe that businesses like ours have a responsibility to meet these demands.
“As a local businessman, I see firsthand the impact the range of education and learning opportunities available has on my team.”
The qualification was first launched in 2010 and Kevin is now one of 128 restaurant managers across the UK to complete it.
