An apprentice electrician from Falkirk proved he is a real bright spark.

Callum Urquhart (22), who works for Stirling-based FES Ltd, lined up against 10 of Scotland’s top trainees last month in a national competition.

The Electrotechnical Modern Apprenticeship competition brings together the most accomplished apprentice electricians in the country and tests them on their ability, knowledge and talent.

Organised by the Scottish Electrical Charitable Training Trust, the annual competition is open to all apprentice electricians in Scotland and this year took place in Inverness.

The best performing trainees are nominated for a place in the UK Skills competition later this year.

Trust spokesman Roy Dow said: “This year’s finalists come from throughout Scotland, from Inverness in the north to Galston in the south, and have each demonstrated an exceptional level of commitment, aptitude and application to reach this stage.
