A popular family-run gift shop is for sale after the owner announced plans to retire.
Steve Mackie, who took over the business from his late mother, Mattie, has revealed he is selling The Gilded Cage.
It opened in Falkirk’s Lower Newmarket Street – from where it still trades – 46 years ago and quickly established a reputation for providing a large range of gifts, including jewellery, ornaments, kitchenware, glassware and novelties, as well as Scottish-themed goods.
It is also well known for its colourful – and often humorous – seasonal window displays.
Mr Mackie said the store has gathered “an unfailingly generous and remarkably pleasant” customer base over the years, many of whom began shopping with his mother and are still regulars.
He added even customers who have left the area, including moving to other parts of the world, still patronise The Gilded Cage when they return to Falkirk.
The ground floor shop, which also has space on the first floor, is being marketed by DM Hall Chartered Surveyors.
