York Cafe’s latest owner plans early opening
Falkirk’s famous York Cafe is under new management and will re-open early next month.
The iconic eatery at the East end of the High Street has been taken over by a Turkish businessman whose other interests include running two thriving restaurants in the North of Scotland.
Armagan Gocuk (30) did his homework before signing a 15-year lease for the cafe owned by the Serafini family for decades until Ricky Serafini retired six years ago.
The property is now undergoing extensive modernisation and refurbishment – but when it is ready for business former patrons will be glad to know the traditional and ever-popular favourites will be back on the menu!
Mr Gocuk said: “I know all about the reputation The York Cafe had for serving some of the best fish teas and ice cream in town and my aim is to once again provide the great Scottish home cooking and hospitality the cafe was famous for. I want to bring back the old York Cafe spirit and see it regain its popularity with a new generation of customers.
“I’ve been in Falkirk a few times already overseeing the work the builders and painters are doing ahead of opening during the first week of October and people have already been coming up and asking what is happening. They have shown a lot of interest.
“There will be a Turkish influence to the York Cafe and Restaurant menu, but I’ve decided against changing the place completely. We will be serving traditional meals including the Scottish favourite fish and chips and serving breakfast from 8 a.m. until high tea at 6.45 p.m. The extensive menu will include freshly prepared hand cut sandwiches, omelettes, baked potatoes and paninis. I intend to give 100 per cent to this new venture and bring the standards back up to the levels which made the cafe so popular with so many people for so many years.”
The successful entrepreneur also hopes his latest business venture will create up to eight jobs.
