Physiotherapists reach a milestone

welcoming the 1000th patient to the practice just 18 months after opening is Life Fit Physiotherapy.
Husband and wife team David and Arlene Bowmaker launched the business at The Hub in Beancross Road, Grangemouth, in July 2011.
Since then they admit to being overwhelmed by how quickly it has grown and are delighted that Life Fit’s reputation has spread, bringing in patients of all ages – from 10 years to over 80 – and from all different backgrounds.
Chartered physiotherapist David said: “We’re very happy to get to the milestone 100th client which justifies working hard to foster relationships, particularly with sports clubs and businesses in the area.
“We have been running ‘niggle clinics’ with the Falkirk Victoria Harriers, Falkirk Rugby Club, Linlithgow Tennis Club, Central Taekwondo and lots more clubs, while Arlene has been working with local businesses, including Ineos and the new Asda depot, when she actually goes on site to treat people.”
The Life Fit partners are just about to welcome on board their fifth physiotherapist to cope with demand from clients.
David added: “If someone contacts us then we aim to see them within 48 hours where possible. The average wait on the NHS to be seen by a physiotherapist is around 16 weeks. If you are concerned by a bad back and you’ve still got it four months later, then it’s going to be a lot worse.”
Although they deal with a lot of sports injuries, the technological age has been responsible for the growing number of people requiring physio for complaints brought on by repeated computer and tablet use.
David said: “Technology has had an impact on people with many having poor posture, but when you have kids with physical problems through use of things like Game Boys, it also often means they have been using them and not getting proper exercise.”
Living in Bo’ness, the couple were well aware of the benefits of The Hub, a purpose-built business centre which offers modern facilities and close proximity to the motorway, with David adding it was “perfect” for them.
Looking ahead, he said they were keen to continue providing support for clients through treatment but also offering a range of additional classes, including yoga, pilates and nordic walking, where they could “keep an eye” on people as they made their way back to full fitness.
