New cocktail bar for Falkirk

A new cocktail bar hopes to persuade drinkers to shun Glasgow and Edinburgh to stay in Falkirk.

The owners of One Princes Street are renovating the former 20 Rocks to make it a swanky bar selling premium drinks and professionally-made cocktails.

John Hamilton (32) and Stuart Gillespie (23) have taken over the lease and will open their new business on Friday, February 28.

John, from Airth, has worked in bars in Stirling and Edinburgh. He said: “There has been a lot of investment in Falkirk recently and we are adding to that by investing in a high quality bar.

“We think there is a gap in the town for a cocktail bar to rival those in Edinburgh’s George Street or Royal Exchange Square in Glasgow and try to persuade those that would go through to the cities that they can have a great night in Falkirk.”

The duo are putting their money where their mouths are and doing a full renovation of the bar with custom-made furniture.

The fact that 26 pubs close every week in the UK doesn’t faze them.

John said: “We know it’s a difficult industry to enter but if you are providing something no one else is, don’t stand still and adapt to meet the needs of your customers there will still be business there.”

Stuart, from Polmont who also owns Falkirk design and marketing company, Design Now Print, added: “We think Falkirk has been crying out for something like One Princes Street and the feedback we have had so far confirms this.“
