A long-established independent electrical business is to close its two High Street shops as customers migrate online.
Stewart Electrical, which has traded from the same premises in Bonnybridge High Street since 1965, is ending its retail business to focus on its contractual operation.
It’s another blow to local high streets following the closure of several other well-known shops across the district in the last 12 months.
The family-owned firm was established by George Stewart (69) and is now managed by son Alan (44).
“We restructured the business in 2011 in the hope that the stores could remain open, but in the last six months sales have just disappeared,” said Alan.
“Supermarkets have been massively discounting electrical goods, and the direction of sales is all online.”
Four full-time and one part-time staff will be made redundant when the stores in Bonnybridge and Linlithgow close on June 27.
“The hard work and dedication of our staff, in particular Ian, Marlene, Freddy and Isabel, has kept the shops open these past two years,” added Alan.
“As a result of the restructuring there is sadly no spare capacity in our contracting business. It’s been very tough to make this decision.
“I would like to thank our loyal customers, many of whom have been coming back for decades.
“We will be delighted to continue to serve our contracting customers from our base in Grangemouth.”
Customers with any queries regarding the closure are advised to email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (01324) 484444.
