Keeping Falkirk’s female population top of the best dressed stakes is reaping rewards for Lauren Ferguson.

The owner of boutiques Sisters and Fergie has established herself as a key player in the area’s fashion world. But now comes evidence that her reputation has spread further afield.

Sisters has just been nominated in the top 100 inspirational independent boutiques by Draper magazine, the fashion industry’s style bible.

Next month, the country’s top five will be announced at an awards ceremony in London.

Lauren said: “I was surprised but delighted to be nominated. Drapers asks lots of people in the industry to vote on who should be on the list.

“The fact that it is other businesses who are voting makes this a real achievement. It shows that we are perceived as ‘hot’ in terms of the industry.”

Growing up in a retail background, her father owned Brown’s gents outfitters in Lint Riggs, it was almost inevitable Lauren and her brother Gregg would go into the trade. Their first joint venture was Tammy Trout Clothing which they ran from premises initially in the In Shops before moving on to the High Street.

In 1996 Lauren decided to open her own ladies boutique, moving into Falkirk’s Lint Riggs, and now runs two neighbouring units in the street, including the premises her father used to run his shop from.

She said: “With Sisters and Fergie we offer something for all ages and sizes, whether it is a 15-year-old wanting to spend her pocket money or someone looking for a special occasion outfit.

“I always aim to keep it fresh and innovative. It’s important that we keep evolving. That’s one of the reasons we now have our own factory to produce our Queen B range. It certainly seems that what we do one day, other shops follow.”
