Awards see Falkirk up among the best

Successful recipients of Bar None awards

Successful recipients of Bar None awards

Pubs and clubs were toasting success after meeting high standards in safety and customer service.

The Best Bar None Awards, now in their fourth year locally, had their highest ever number of gold recipients with three premises going through to the national finals.

At a ceremony in City nightclub on Tuesday hosted by comedian Des Clarke, Falkirk premises Voodoo Lounge, Behind the Wall, Sportsters Bar and City Nightclub all once again took the top award.

Gold awards were also handed over to Carron Works, Falkirk, and the Earl of Zetland, Grangemouth. Both achieved silver last year.

Silver went to new entrant Corbie Inn from Bo’ness, while Northstar and the Wellington Bar in Falkirk were again accredited.

Going through to the national award shortlist are: Behind the Wall, Sportsters/City and Voodoo Lounge.

Sarah McKenzie from Falkirk Delivers, which has an active role in promoting the awards, said: “We are delighted so many Falkirk licensees have become involved with the Best Bar None scheme.

“The awards represent a great deal of work from a number of partner agencies and, of course, the teams working in each of the venues.

“Well done to all of our winners and I hope consumers will look out for a Best Bar None award when choosing where to socialise in a safe environment.”

Running in Scotland since 2005, the Best Bar None awards promote responsible management and operation of licensed premises by rewarding safe and well-managed licensed venues.

Ashley Kellock, Scottish co-ordinator for Best Bar None, said: “This is a brilliant result for each of the winners and for Falkirk itself. It means that locals and visitors in the area can be assured of a warm welcome and a safe night out if they choose one of these award-winning venues.”

Best Bar None is sponsored by Diageo, Molson Coors and Heineken and supported by the Scottish Government and the Scottish Business Crime Centre.

Applicants have to be registered before being inspected on the five key elements in the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005: prevention of crime and disorder, protection of public safety, protection of the environment, promotion of public health and protection of children from harm.
