Families took part in everything from bungee runs, pony rides and fancy dress competitions to football matches and egg and spoon races.

And the fun day was so successful organisers hope it will become an annual event to bring back the gala day spirit of bygone eras.

Community education worker John Burt said: “It’s the first one at the park and we are over the moon with the turnout. We’re planning on making it an annual event now to recreate the old gala days.

“It was the management committee who made it all possible so all the thanks go to them. People are saying it’s great to see the place still has some community spirit about it. Thanks to everyone who took part.”
