Entries have been flooding in for our Smile Awards – and there is still time for you to nominate someone who brings sunshine into your life!
The closing date for entries is next Saturday, October 12.
From all the nominees we have received for the Falkirk Herald area, one winner will be chosen to go to Scotland’s Happiness Day conference on November 2.
They will be treated to a lunch and will receive a specially commissioned sun catcher glass medal, as well as having the chance to enjoy the talks, classes and entertainment on offer.
The Smile Awards are being run in association with Kim McLeod of Stress The Positive, who founded Scotland’s Happiness Day.
Kim said: “This is the first time we have run these awards and I have been delighted by the response.
“Nominations are coming in from all around the country and reading about them has definitely made me smile.
“We have people being thanked for their cheery nature, sharing laughter and jokes with others, for everyday kind acts such as phoning a friend, helping with daily tasks and being there to support them through hard times.
“We have had some thanking their partners for waking with a smile and some people have received several nominations.
“Sharing our gratitude for the positive people in our lives makes us feel happier too so the Smile Awards are increasing happiness across Scotland.”
Throughout the year, Kim runs ‘happiness clubs’ which are fun and informal groups where people can learn simple techniques to boost their happiness – everything from talks from comedians to playing children’s games!
The Happiness Conference is an extension of these, and will include personal development talks from authors David Hamilton and Sandy Newbigging, as well as yoga classes, comedy, poetry readings and live music.
Kim added: “For those people who can’t attend the conference, we are asking that they mark the day by doing something which helps boost their own happiness or the happiness of people around them.”
