A newlywed is hosting a fundraiser with a difference to raise money for a charity close to her heart.
Laura Jane Valentine, of Grangemouth, is holding a wedding-themed disco next month in aid of Strathcarron Hospice after witnessing the great work the staff do.
Laura Jane (30) said: “I’ve never organised anything like this before, but last summer my family and I lost my father-in-law to cancer.
“The staff and the treatment he received in the hospice was amazing and no thanks will ever be enough to show our appreciation.
“It was then I realised just how much Strathcarron relies on donations and I wanted to do something to help.”
Laura Jane’s father-in-law, Terry Valentine of Banknock, had been ill for some time and Laura Jane decided to bring her wedding forward by six months to December 2011 to make sure he could be there.
She said: “We had planned to get married in May 2012.
“I had such great support from a wedding forum, and since then I’ve spoken to so many married people who I know would love to wear their wedding dress again, and that’s why I decided on this theme.”
The event at Carronshore Social Club on Saturday, February 9, is encouraging everyone to dress up for a wedding by wearing either a wedding dress, bridesmaids dress, formal outfit and kilts or tails for the men.
Laura Jane added: “Wedding dress are so fantastic and it’s such a pity we never get to wear them again, so I hope lots of people will dress up.
“And I know that even men love to show off in their kilts.”
Guests will be treated to a disco, buffet, raffle and a game of Mr and Mrs.
Tickets, priced £5, are available from the social club or Laura Jane on 07595 348743.
