PENSIONERS have appealed for fundraisers to come forward to help secure the future of a popular community hall.

Part of the roof of Maddiston Old Folks Hall collapsed last week and its owners now face paying a substantial repair bill.

The building on the village's Main Street is a venue for local pensioners to meet up and socialise. It is independently run and raises all of its own funds.

But committee members now fear they won't have enough cash to host their annual Christmas dinner once they have paid £10,000 to fix the roof.

Committee chairperson Janet Hunter (74) has lived in Maddiston for 53 years and said the hall plays an important role in the community.
