TESCO has renewed its commitment to building a store in Camelon.
Supermarket bosses told residents they are determined to do everything possible to take forward the plans for a 35,000 sq. ft food shop, petrol station and car park.
The public meeting on Monday was organised by the Camelon Regneration group follo
wing frustration that the plans for the former Wrangler jean factory in Glasgow Road were moving too slowly.
Ben Train, Tesco's Scottish planning manager, said: "We have owned this site for over a decade.
''At a meeting last March we were given overwhelming support from the local community who want to see a store on this site.
"Last July we submitted a planning application for a supermarket. As well as being an environmentally friendly building, we believe it will encourage people to shop locally and it will bring 200 full and part-time jobs, mainly recruited from the local area."
He added that the company had already invested a lot of money in the proposal – £14,000 alone to submit the latest application – and was hopeful of gaining approval.
But Falkirk Council's planning chief warned one of the main hurdles is the size of the proposed store and said it was bigger than a development brief for the area envisaged.
