Store bosses to be quizzed on Camelon plans

FED-UP villagers want a supermarket giant to come clean on its plans for their area.
For more than 10 years Tesco has been linked to the former Wrangler jean factory site in Glasgow Road, Camelon, with hopes of opening a store.

Red tape including the land not being earmarked for retail use or a food store delayed the plans coming to fruition.

And the original proposal to develop the land was withdraw over concerns it would not get planning consent.

However, at a public meeting in the village last year, supermarket bosses pledged their commitment to opening a store and held a series of presentations revealing the plans for a 37,000 sq. ft eco-store and petrol station.

Tesco vowed it would create over 200 job opportunities and regenerate the rundown Western Gateway.

But locals are unhappy there appears to be no further progress and have organised a public meeting for Monday evening to which supermarket bosses and Falkirk Council officials have been invited.
