WOMEN of all ages turned up at Callendar Park in their hundreds on Sunday to celebrate the lives of those affected by cancer.
Despite an initial spot of rain the Falkirk Race for Life was a huge success with 2527 pairs of feet running, jogging and walking the 5 km route.

The Falkirk Herald was the media sponsor for the event which raised more than £152,000 through sponso
rship for Cancer Research UK.

This money will be used to support the charity's 4250 scientists, doctors and nurses throughout the UK.

The race started at 11 a.m. and the crowd was in good spirits as they warmed up under the direction of staff from female-only gym Curves.

Some participants chose fancy dress as their apparel of choice, while others opted for more traditional running gear.

Amongst the crowd was Falkirk Council leader, Linda Gow, who was taking part again this year.

And making it home in first position was 14-year-old Lucy Mitchell from Larbert.

Race for Life is the UK's largest women-only fundraising event, where mums, daughters, sisters and friends of all ages come together to raise money, which will be spent treating, diagnosing and preventing cancer.

Janet Cooper, Cancer Research UK's event manager said: "I am overwhelmed that the Falkirk event exceeded its target of 2300 and reached over 2500.

"Race for Life is such an inspiring and emotional day where women of all ages and abilities come together to make a real difference. "
