AN ELDERLY man died in hospital four days after being involved in a road accident
.
Danny Thomson (79) had just left his home in Frobisher Avenue, Falkirk, last Thursday for a teatime stroll when the incident occurred.
Around 5.30 p.m. he was in collision with a westbound blue Vauxhall car in Westburn Avenue, close to the site
of the new Falkirk High School.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to Stirling Royal Infirmary.
Police closed the road for around four hours while they carried out investigations.
Mr Thomson leaves a wife, Maisie (78), and a son, Alastair (52).
Devastated at their loss, Mrs Thomson said the news of her husband's accident was broken to her by police.
She said: "It's not sunk in yet. He walked quite a bit and I think he was heading up to Lock 16, but I can't believe that he went out for a walk and isn't coming back."
Her husband was a keen golfer and bowler.
Neighbours in the quiet cul-de-sac where the Thomson's have lived for the past 12 years were shocked by the tragedy. One resident described Mr Thomson as "a friendly man who would always stop and chat".
The couple were originally from Slamannan, and Mr Thomson was a former pupil of Falkirk Technical School. He later qualified as an electrical engineer and worked for Borg Warner in Grangemouth which was later sold to GE.
Funeral arrangements have still to be finalised.
A Central Scotland Police spokeswoman confirmed a report on the incident had been sent to the Procurator Fiscal in Falkirk.
