THE CONTRACTORS working on a new high school have been warned they face a Health and Safety probe unless they follow parking guidelines.

As the new Grangemouth High School takes shape, problems with workers parking in nearby streets have led authorities to put strict measures in place.

Grangemouth Councillor Angus MacDonald called a special meeting of residents from Cairngorm Ro
ad, Cheviot Place, Tinto Drive, Grampian Crescent and Sidlaw Place who were angry with the situation.

He said: "I was concerned there would be school runs starting up this week with severe congestion problems still there. A meeting was held last Wednesday with the developers, Central Scotland Police and the director for the schools' project and agreed a permit system."

The system, implemented last Thursday, gives white vans priority to enter the car park at the new school, while workers' private vehicles should park at Grangemouth Stadium in Kersiebank Avenue, or the car park at the rear of the stadium.

Councillor MacDonald said he would be attending a follow-up meeting.

"We will see if the new system is working and, if it isn't, we will call in the Health and Safety Executive to deal with the issue. Hopefully we won't have to ."

Earlier this year The Falkirk Herald reported that residents in Tinto Drive were having parking problems. People complained they had to get up before 7 a.m. to get their car out of their drives before they were blocked in by workers' vehicles.

Stewart Milne Construction, is carrying out the project. A spokesman said: "We ensure our own staff utilise the parking facilities allocated to them – but subcontractors have been parking outwith the site.

"We are taking additional steps to reduce the amount of offsite parking and we will continue to monitor the situation."

Directing workers to Grangemouth Stadium came as a resident complained to The Falkirk Herald about indiscriminate parking there.

He said: "Coach drivers park with complete disregard to the general public and their requirements to use the road, often parking illegally on double yellow lines and causing mayhem to the general user of the
road.

"This needs to be sorted before there is a crash or someone gets knocked down."
