ADMINISTRATORS hope the troubled Mathiesons bakery firm can be sold as a going concern.

The Larbert-based business went into administration last Wednesday putting over 350 jobs at risk.

The news one of the district's oldest employers was in trouble shocked thousands of loyal customers.

Yesterday (Wednesday) there was hope the bakery, 26 shops and six cafeterias, including the ones in the Mall Howgate and Callendar Square, have a future under new ownership.

John Reid of Deloitte said: "Mathiesons is recognised as a quality bakery with a skilled workforce.  We are continuing to trade the business and looking to sell it as a going concern. Although the company has a largely successful retail network of owned and leased properties, and has the required credentials to supply the major supermarkets, it has been unable to support an over-burdened high cost base. There are already a number of interested parties, but these discussions are at an early stage."
