A WOMAN says her dream kitchen has turned into a nightmare.
Kitchens 4 Less sent a salesman to measure Maureen Downs' home after she contacted them through an advert.

Maureen (50) shelled out £1400 for new units and appliances, but she claims the parts that were delivered were faulty, damaged and not what she ordered.

Maureen said: "I'm absolutely gutted.

"The salesman seemed very genuine and helpful. He even told me that he didn't work off of commission so he wasn't trying to make himself money, just get me a nice kitchen."

Maureen, husband Walter (53) and their two young children were so eager to get a new, modern kitchen that they paid a £200 deposit to the salesman.

A further £1200 was handed over upon delivery but the family was disappointed after opening the boxes.

They claim the units were scratched and damaged, the sink wasn't the one ordered and the hob, extractor hood and oven were brands they had never heard of.

Kitchens 4 Less had arranged for a fitter to come to the home in Duke Street, Grangemouth, but they never materialised and Maureen asked family friend and joiner, Gavin Flanigan, to fit them.

Gavin (36) said: "As soon as I saw the products, I knew they were no good. They had no fittings attached and were very poor quality.

''For the amount of money Maureen paid she should have got a lovely kitchen but all I could use out of what they had delivered was a few of the units and doors. Even then I had to alter them drastically.

"She has had to buy lots of parts to replace the faulty ones and pay for all the extra time it's taking me to alter the units.

''She would have been far better off going to a DIY shop and then hiring a joiner."

Kitchen 4 Less, which is based in Doncaster but advertises in local papers all over the country, has a customer service phone number but Maureen has been unable to contact anyone there.

The company did not respond to The Falkirk Herald's requests for a comment.

Maureen said: "After looking online, I found lots of people with complaints about Kitchens 4 Less.

"I've had to buy a new cooker and hob as well as lots of units and panels, so on top of the £1400, I've had to shell out another £800 so far ... and that's before I've paid for all Gavin's time. It's just been a nightmare."

"The salesman said he was going to measure kitchens for other people in Falkirk after he'd been to me and I really hope they didn't purchase anything from them.''

A spokesperson for Trading Standards said: "We are aware of Kitchens 4 Less and we would ask anyone who had a complaint about them, or any company, to contact Consumer Direct Scotland on 08454 04 05 06."
