ONE of Central Scotland's longest serving firefighters has announced his retirement.
Tommy Mann will have completed 30 years of service when he leaves on May 14.
For the last four years he has been a principal officer acting as director of service delivery with Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service.
He joined the fire service in
1978 initially serving at the old Falkirk fire station. In 1985 he became an instructor at the Fire Service College at Gullane and then on into legislative fire safety.
Most recently he headed the operational response and community safety side of the organisation.
Chief Fire Officer Steve Torrie said: "In managing people at all levels of his career, Tommy has been instrumental in developing fellow fire officers through his infectious ability to motivate people and teach others his skills, both in the complex areas of legislation relating to fire safety and in the practical skills involved in operational fire fighting.
"Leading by example with tact, diplomacy and a courteous manner, coupled with his thoughtful approach and strength of character, Tommy Mann has provided effective solutions to deliver-ing a first-class service.
"By his retirement Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service will lose a well-liked, respected and most capable officer.''
