THE 139th Airth Highland Games take place this coming Saturday and it promises to be a fun-filled day for all the family.

This year marks a significant milestone in the event's long history as it prepares to host a pipe band competition for the very first time.

Alec Dettlaff, secretary of the Airth Highland Games committee, said he was delighted to be able to include a pipe band contest in this year's programme.

He said: "We are really chuffed to have one this year as it is the first time in the games' history that we've been able to do so. Usually, the games are on the same weekend as the European Pipe Band Championships, but this year they are not.

"We have 16 bands taking part including bands from Denny and Dunipace, Bo'ness, Linlithgow and District and the Royal Burgh of Stirling who will be competing."
