Slamannan lodge is real labour of love

To look at this characterful lodge in Slamannan, you’d think it had all been decorated yesterday.

In fact, the complete renovation of this immaculate house in the Balquhatstone estate has taken four years, with meticulous care and attention taken along the way.

“It’s been a labour of love,” said owner Mark Beattie who lives in East Lodge with partner Steve Hay.

“We bought it four years ago because we loved the location, and we have spent all our time on it, both inside and the gardens, too.

“Now it’s all done, we absolutely love and parting with it will not be easy.”

There’s hardly a corner of this house that has not been rejuvenated.

Over time, refurbishments have included a new kitchen, new bathroom, plastering throughout, new skirting, coving, carpets, and double glazing.

It also boasts a new boiler and cavity wall and loft insulation.

Mark said: “When we bought it, it did need a bit of TLC.

“We took a great deal of time with the quality and the finishings.

“The refurbishment was done one room at a time, and done meticulously.”

Inside this comfortable and contemporary home, there’s a large, bright living and dining area with double doors leading straight out to a double terrace.

There’s a cool, slate grey kitchen with integrated appliances, three double bedrooms, a smart bathroom and separate shower.

But a stunning addition is the extensive landscaped gardens.

“My partner is very green-fingered,” said Mark. “Over time, we got it back to the way it should be.

“We added seating areas, and it’s just a lovely place to be with a wood-lined entrance.”

The location of this property is also something that has continued to be a favourite feature.

Surrounded by equestrian centres and stables, its countryside feel doesn’t mean that it’s not a perfect spot for commuters.

Said Mark: “It’s really good for commuting, whether you’re going to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Linlithgow or Falkirk.

“It’s been a great place to enjoy outdoor pursuits, too.”

Mark added: “We have enjoyed living here so much.

“It’s a very social house, and now it’s in walk-in condition for someone else to start enjoying it.”
