There is no denying that quality shines through in this beautiful, bright, contemporary five-bedroomed house, which sits almost in the heart of Falkirk town centre.

The stunning kitchen/dining and family area forms the social heart of the house , with the feature glass wall and bi-fold doors making it bright and airy and enhancing the feeling of bringing the outdoors inside.

A keen cook, this area is owner Jim Toner’s favourite space. It’s somewhere he can take pride in, having helped design the house when he built it seven years ago in his previous home’s garden.

Jim worked with the locally based Arka architects who designed the stylish exterior while he made sure the interior was exactly how he wanted it.

The amazing attention to detail is seen in touches such as the flagstone outside the kitchen closely matching the floor tiles, bringing the areas together harmoniously.

The wood used throughout the house, from the internal doors to the staircase, is all locally sourced Stirlingshire oak, something Jim insisted on.

The house also has underfloor heating and an air conditioning system, while it is super insulated.

The quality is evident outside too – Jim had a stone mason on site for six months, working on the sandstone by hand.

The self-contained, one bedroomed ‘guest lodge’ over the double garage is finished in the same sandstone as the main house.

There are lovely touches inside too, such as the airy master bedroom which has another feature glass wall and what Jim calls a ‘coffee balcony’.

When Jim and his wife designed the interior, they made sure that the space suited their needs, but they also insisted on flexibility.

So, the master bedroom, which is en-suite with a dressing room, has double doors opening onto another room which could be a nursery, a gym or an office.

“It is a five-bedroomed house,” said Jim, “But it was designed to be flexible –the master bedroom could easily be a whole suite.”

On warm summer days, however, you won’t find the family inside – there is an area of the garden which contains a summer house, a decking ideal for table and chairs and even a jacuzzi gazebo and Koi pond.

“It’s very self-contained - we’ve got a fridge and a barbecue there, so we spend a lot of time there.”
