When you have your heart set on a property with a difference, it can be hard to find something you’ll be completely happy with.

But for the Stevenson family, this stunning architect-designed Polmont home has given them exactly what they wanted.

The home is bright and spacious

The home is bright and spacious

With full-length windows, an open-plan hallway, a sunken living room and easy access to all the shops, transport and leisure facilities, the owners of 9 Scott Avenue still think it’s one of a kind.

Gillian Stevenson, who lives in the house with husband William and the couple’s three children said: “When we were looking for a house, we saw a lot that were quite close together and they all looked the same.

“We were looking for something different, and this house offered us that.”

The property is one of three architect-designed homes in this street.

The couple were so impressed, they bought from plot.

Gillian said: “The house was completely different from the normal.

“It was all the glass that really did it for me.

“Because of that, this house is so full of light and it’s very airy.

“It brings the outside in.

“The open plan kitchen/dining area is a great space, whether it’s for socialising or somewhere for the kids to play.”

This free-flowing area is really the hub of the house, with a huge living room and stairs leading up to a stylish bright kitchen and dining room.

Coupled with a galleried reception hall, it’s easy to keep your eyes on the children.

But the Stevensons say the whole house has proved perfect for family life, with four good-size bedrooms, two en-suites, plenty of storage and an extra first-floor sitting room.

Since moving into this brand new home three-and-a-half-years ago, the couple have found little need to do much work inside, apart from adding a black amtico floor.

Gillian added: “We did do a lot to the garden.

“There was nothing there when we arrived, but it’s now a really nice area with raised beds and we grow our own veg.

“But the house is so light inside that I also grow peppers and chillies on the kitchen window sill.”

The location has also been ideal for a busy family.

With Gillian based in Edinburgh and William in Glasgow, the seven-minute walk from Scott Avenue to the train station makes life easier,

Gillian added: “The house is just a few minutes walk from the library, the park, the pub, the shops. It’s very handy for whatever you want to do.”
