It’s third time lucky for stand-up fans as one of the country’s biggest comedy festivals returns for another fortnight of laugh-a-minute shows.
Funny in Falkirk 2012 will see some of the biggest names in the business descend on the district for the third year in succession.
A mixture of familiar favourites and up-and-coming talent will perform at venues in Falkirk, Grangemouth, Denny, Bonnybridge and Bo’ness from Friday, July 20 until Tuesday, July 31.
The event is once again being organised by the Scottish Comedy Agency, the Edinburgh-based company behind The Stand franchise of stand-up clubs.
Director Tommy Sheppard said: “We’re looking forward to an even more successful year than last, and can’t wait to hear the laughter breaking out all over Falkirk and the surrounding area.”
The full line-up won’t be revealed until early June, but The Falkirk Herald, which is an official media partner for the festival, can reveal that Scottish stand-up legend Fred MacAulay is likely to be amongst the list of performers.
The popular Radio Scotland DJ has played both of the previous Funny in Falkirk festivals.
Last year’s event saw more than 3100 tickets sold for 58 individual events.
The likes of Stephen K Amos, and Elaine C Smith performed at Falkirk and Grangemouth town halls, whilst smaller venues such as Behind the Wall welcomed renowned stand-ups such as Stewart Lee.
All three venues will again be hosting shows this summer.
Alastair Mitchell, manager of Falkirk Delivers, which promotes Falkirk town centre, said the return of Funny in Falkirk for a third year proved it was now an established event.
“Falkirk Delivers is delighted that Funny in Falkirk is returning. I can’t wait for the full line-up to be revealed. Last year’s event was a great success and I’m sure this year will be even better.
“Funny in Falkirk has proven to be of great benefit to bars and restaurants across the district. It’s a real boost to the area’s night time economy.”
