Evelyn Kane recognised the women as part of the bridal party at her wedding. Gavin and Evelyn, nee Scobbie, were blessed with sunshine on August 5, 1982 for their wedding, and the guests are pictured at the house of Alec and Betty Smith on California Road, generously offered as the place for the photographs to be taken. They also provided the catering and refused to be given any form of payment.
Evelyn, a member at the church since 1960, recalls that the day before was raining, which made her slightly nervous, but the sun was splitting the sky on the special day. It returned to being grey on the Friday, but no matter as the happy couple were heading of to Ibiza on honeymoon.
Margaret Mcluckie (left) graciously made the bridesmaids’ dresses and organised the bride’s dress as well, all as a gift.
Mr and Mrs Kane celebrated their pearl wedding anniversary this year. Evelyn said: “It was a lovely day, and prayers were definitely answered for the weather.
“I’m so grateful for all of my Christian friends, otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to have a wedding.
“People were very generous, donating what they could, even baking for the reception at night, and it made the day really lovely.”
